When life gives you lemons, make someone pay!

So you leave the car dealership excited and proud of your newly purchased vehicle, then it happens. Maybe one hour or one month after you bring the deal of a lifetime home, things turn sour. After a trip or two back to the dealer that sinking felling kicks in when you realize you've been had.

Now what? You have already started the first step of learning your rights, now it is time to take action.

Every state has consumer protection laws, some better than others, but the general guidlines of states lemon laws are similar

  • Customer gets no results from dealer
  • Repeated trips for the same problem
  • 3rd party mechanic verifies the defect
  • Used for personal purposes.
  • Lemon laws do not cover tractors or farm vehicles
  • Lemon laws do not apply if the problem is the result of alteration, abuse or neglect of the vehicle.

    What you can expect
  • The manufacturer must repurchase or replace the lemon
vehicle for the full purchase price minus a reasonable allowance for use, minus the amount caused by neglect or mistreatment of the car or truck.

Gather as much information before making any further demands or threats to the dealer. Don't tip your your hand by talking about things you don't understand. It will only cause them to dig in thier heals. They know the rules, you should too.

Don't get mad, get informed. Lemon laws are here to protect consumers who have been taken for a ride.
